Two predominant areas of ongoing transport electrification are the uptake electric vehicles (EVs) in personal transportation and electrically powered trains for mass - both significantly increase demand stresses on power grid. In this research, a novel V2G application to support rail is proposed. A local network can reduce peak grid arising from electrified traffic enable brake energy recovery DC-powered trains. case study examining an existing third-rail system England supported by simulated population aggregated parked EVs presented. Simulation results 24 h view single train station with nearby enabled car park discussed. Therein EV size, charging rate limits per overall made available variables. The network's ability absorb regenerative braking was found be more sensitive changes rates than its provide traction power. particular, careful management required avoid ‘too quickly’ during periods without traffic.
